Chris Eastland is a classically trained portrait painter working in oil and charcoal. He trained for seven years at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence (1998–2005), where he studied the sight-size method in the Florentine atelier tradition and, from 2002 onward, taught alongside the studio's faculty. He accepts a limited number of portrait commissions each year from his Brooklyn studio.
